AMC Entertainment Holdings now accepts Dogecoins for buying gift cards
NEW DELHI: US-based
CEO Adam Aron hailed Dogecoin users in a tweet on October 6 about the good news that will allow them to buy digital gift cards with Dogecoins and other cryptocurrencies up to $200 per day using BitPay wallet.
The payment will be accepted on websites, mobile apps and in AMC theatres. For buying a gift card, users have to install a Bitpay browser extension and use the Bitpay Wallet.
Aron said that the company will devise ways to use Dogecoin and the four cryptocurrencies accepted earlier for payment in AMC by the end of this year.
The largest movie exhibition company had announced on 16th September about accepting payments in cryptocurrencies namely Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Ethereum.
However, Aron's tweet also confirmed that by the end of the year it would start accepting more cryptocurrencies for payments.
In the same tweet, he had also mentioned that AMC would have the requisite technology to use Google Pay and Apple Pay for online ticketing option also by the end of 2021.
The Dogecoin community welcomed the decision calling it a huge step. An online poll conducted by Aron on 21st September helped him to reach the decision of accepting Doge as a payment option besides the earlier approved cryptos.
He had asked netizens to poll on how many of them want AMC to explore Dogecoin too and accept it as a payment option. High majority of 68.1 per cent voted strongly for it, while 16.2 per cent we're against using Dogecoin as payment option.
AMC Entertainment Holdings offers online ticketing, food distribution, movie screening and theatrical exhibition services. Currently, the entertainment company owns and operates approximately 950 theaters and 10,500 screens globally.
