Apparel brands plan store expansion in tier 2 and 3 cities

and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail have announced expansion of brick and mortar business in the third quarter.

Brands like Shoppers Stop plan expansion of physical stores like new initiatives like opening of 20 smaller size stores over the next six quarters, growth in its private label mix, and increased focus on high growth beauty business offers a good growth opportunity.

The management plans to open 20 department stores over the next six months and 20 beauty stores over the next two years. It plans to deepen its presence in smaller towns, with smaller size stores to improve efficiency. It is targeting 2x FY20 sales over the next 4-5 years on: a) improved store productivity, b) store expansion, c) improved share in the online and beauty segment.

Indian Terrain, which operates 200 stores across 150 cities, post pandemic it saw offline sales bounce back to pre-pandemic numbers lead in terms of total sales, thus aggressive retail expansion will remain a key driver for the company growth.

said it aims at expanding in tier 1 and tier 2 markets evenly where many customers still prefer offline shopping experience over online. “Since last March, we have expanded our footprints nationwide with 40 stores and look to continue the momentum, for reaching the high growth market segments physical presence is key,” he added.

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail says it will continue with its aggressive store expansion plans across segments, where Ethnic Wear and Pantaloons will see over 100 new stores annually.

According to Motilal Oswal research report stated its management expects a strong and a sustained recovery on the back of tailwinds from the festive season. ABFRL witnessed a margin improvement on an improved share of Retail and private labels, lower mark downs, and cost control measures.
