Auto parts maker Yazaki sets up new Chennai factory in collaboration with Horizon Industrial Parks

CHENNAI: Japanese auto parts maker Yazaki is expanding its India footprint with a new plant in Chennai. The $17 billion global auto parts giant, with a footprint in 46 countries, has expanded its India footprint with close to one million square feet in NCR, Hosur, and now in Chennai.

“This has been done in collaboration with Horizon Industrial Parks, Blackstone’s logistics platform in India,” said a company statement.

Yazaki operates 12 plants in India and supplies wire harnesses to a majority of OEMs in this market. This is Yazaki’s third plant with Horizon Industrial Parks.

It is a built-to-suit manufacturing unit spanning 3.16 lakh square feet, which will be located in Horizon’s Chengalpet Industrial Park, Chennai’s fast growing industrial hub.

The wire harness manufacturing facility is designed for rooftop solar power and will be manned by more than 2,000 employees.

“With the new peripheral ring road connecting to the Chennai port, Chengalpet is quickly evolving into a key manufacturing hub. Some major companies operating in the region include leading names from the information technology, chip manufacturing, electronics and automotive industries. A new SIDCO industrial estate in Kodur Village, announced in 2021, is set to further boost local industry," said Urvish Rambhia, director at Horizon Industrial Parks.

In addition, Yazaki has two more plants with Horizon, 2.6 lakh square feet plug and play facility in Horizon Industrial Park Hosur established in 2023 and a similar sized plant in NCR at Farukhnagar. Both parks are benchmarks in sustainability and boast platinum ratings by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

P V Raju, CEO of Yazaki India, said, “After evaluating several industrial developers, we chose to partner with Horizon, and they supported us in meeting our timely-delivery commitment to our customers by handing over the Hosur plant to us within six months. Like Yazaki, Horizon emphasizes quality infrastructure and gives us a dust-free environment which is crucial for manufacturing high quality products. We feel assured about the safety of our close to 4,200 employees working in Horizon’s Hosur and Farukhnagar parks.”
