Ayodhya airport, now called the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, has been inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on December 30. Modeled after the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir, Ayodhya airport’s terminal building's facade reflects temple architecture. Situated approximately 15 kilometres from Ayodhya's main city, the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport fuses modern construction in its core with a traditional facade - a theme that is also visible in the Ayodhya Dham railway station building. The entrance mirrors this, sporting a concrete core with sandstone cladding adorned with stylized carvings.

Inside the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, the local art, paintings, and murals depict Lord Ram's life. The airport features an extended runway catering to A-321/B-737 type aircraft operations.

The Ayodhya airport received an aerodrome license from the DGCA on December 14. It boasts a 2,200-metre runway which is suitable for varied operations (day and night) and low visibility conditions exceeding 550 metres, PTI reported quoting the Airports Authority of India.

IndiGo has announced the inaugural flight from Delhi to Ayodhya on December 30, 2023 with commercial services commencing on January 6, 2024. Post that, tri-weekly flights from Ahmedabad to Ayodhya will begin from January 11.
Ayodhya Airport expansion plans
Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has revealed ambitious expansion plans for the Ayodhya airport. According to Scindia, Maharishi Valmiki International Airport’s second phase will encompass 50,000 square metres. This expansion includes lengthening the runway to 3,750 metres to accommodate international flights.
