NEW DELHI: The

Banks Board Bureau

(BBB) has made public its recommendation on the appointment of 22 general managers for selection as executive directors (EDs) of state-run banks in a rare show of transparency in senior-level selection. A final decision on the suggestions by the government-appointed advisory panel, headed by former personnel secretary Bhanu Pratap Sharma, will now be taken by the Cabinet's appointments committee, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In what is probably a first, BBB released its recommendations on its website within days of conducting interviews for executive directors, who are members of the board of directors with the larger players having three executive directors.

The panel has recommended general managers Manas Ranjan Biswal, Gopal Gusain, Vivek Jha, Alok Srivastava, Hemant Kumar Tamta, Ajit Kumar Das, Agyey Kumar Azad, Dinesh Kumar

Garg, Sanjay Aggarwal and Shanti Lal Jain for appointment as EDs.

Vijay Dube, Ajay K Khurana, A Manimekhalai, Vikramaditya Singh Khichi, Usha Ravi, PR Rajagopal, Shenoy Vishwanath Vittal, Atul Kumar, K Srinivasa Rao, Sanjay Kumar, K Ramchandran and Ajay Vyas are also on the list of executives who have been shortlisted for promotion to the second rung of bank management. "These recommendations are based on interactions held by the Banks Board Bureau with eligible candidates from PSBs towards appointment against vacancies in PSBs for the period 2018-19," BBB said.

While banks such as Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank and

Corporation Bank

have vacancies at executive director level, more job openings are expected to come up during the course of the current financial year.

BBB is scheduled to hold interviews to appoint MDs and CEOs of several public sector banks, including

Allahabad Bank

, Punjab & Sind Bank, Andhra Bank and Dena Bank, some of which have remained headless for six months.
