Cabinet approves 4% hike in dearness allowance for central government employees

The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a 4 per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners. information and broadcast minister Prakash Javadekar said that DA for 48 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners have been hiked to 21 per cent. This is over the existing rate of 17 per cent of the basic pay or pension.

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a 4 per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners.
In a media briefing, information and broadcast minister Prakash Javadekar said that DA for 48 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners have been hiked to 21 per cent. This is over the existing rate of 17 per cent of the basic pay or pension.
The hike will come into effect from January 1, 2020.

The government will incur additional expenses of Rs 14,595 crore due to the DA hike, the minister said.
