Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Delhi To Meerut In Less Than An Hour!

Delhi-Meerut RRTS opens! Now, you can travel from Delhi to Meerut in under an hour on Namo Bharat trains at 160 kmph! Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the entire 82 kilometre long Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. The RRTS is a first-of-its-kind system that allows for fast travel between the national capital and nearby areas, integrating cluster hubs with Delhi. The Delhi-Meerut RRTS is the fastest travel option between trains and roads. We take a look at Delhi-Meerut RRTS route map, stations, operational speed, travel time, and top features of the Namo Bharat stations:

Delhi-Meerut RRTS Speed

Namo Bharat trains on the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor will run at a maximum operational speed of 160 kmph - making it a semi-high speed service. The Namo Bharat train sets have a design speed of 180 kmph. The average speed of the RRTS trains will be 90 kmph.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS Stations

The entire 82 kilometre stretch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS has 16 stations. These are Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot Station, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, Modipuram, and Modipuram Depot.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS Travel Time

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS allows you to travel from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram in 58 minutes, Sarai Kale Khan to Begumpul in 54 minutes, and Sarai Kale Khan to Shatabdi Nagar to 50 minutes - all under one hour! The time taken by road is approximately 1 and a half hours, depending on the condition of traffic.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Features of Namo Bharat trains

The Namo Bharat trains have a 2x2 transverse seating. They also feature grab handles and support rails for standing commuters, along with overhead racks for luggage. The trains have features like fire & smoke detector, fire extinguisher, CCTVs.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Premium coach

Each train includes a premium coach offering wider, more comfortable, reclining seats. This coach is accessible through a special lounge at the platform level. Additionally, one coach in every train has been earmarked exclusively for women.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS Cost

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS Namo Bharat project has been completed at a cost of Rs 30,274 crore. With today’s launch the entire stretch will be thrown open. Earlier, a 55 km stretch between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South was functional.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Sarai Kale Khan station a major hub

Sarai Kale Khan station is set to evolve into a key transit interchange, offering seamless connectivity with the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, the Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and city bus networks. A skywalk has been built to link the Nizamuddin railway station, the Namo Bharat station and the Metro station.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Elevated and underground stretches

Of the 82 kilometres long Delhi-Meerut RRTS, 14 kms are in Delhi (9 km elevated, 5 km underground), and 68 kms are in Uttar Pradesh (61 km elevated, 7 km underground).

Delhi-Meerut RRTS stations

All stations have Platform Screen Doors for the safety of the passengers. The train doors are integrated with these. The Namo Bharat trains have push buttons for the selective opening of doors on a need basis. The trains and stations have public announcement & display system, dynamic route map display.

Future RRTS Corridors

In future, the Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station in Delhi will become the interchange hub for three RRTS corridors. Under the first phase of the RRTS, Sarai Kale Khan station is set to function as the common interchange for all three corridors — Delhi–Panipat–Karnal, Delhi–SNB–Alwar and Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut.
