Silver Price Today Live: Silver prices recover

Silver prices recovered on Wednesday after declining for three consecutive sessions, rising by Rs 1,000 to Rs 2.46 lakh per kilogram in the national capital, supported by positive cues from global markets, according to the All India Sarafa Association.

In contrast, gold of 99.9 per cent purity slipped by Rs 300 to Rs 1,56,700 per 10 grams, with prices quoted inclusive of all taxes.

“Silver traded with mild gains on Wednesday, stabilising after recent sharp declines as bargain buying emerged at lower levels,” said Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk.

Gold futures prices advanced on Wednesday, climbing Rs 1,297 to reach Rs 1,52,715 per 10 grams, supported by fresh buying activity from traders amid firm demand in the physical market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, April delivery contracts for the yellow metal moved up by Rs 1,297, or 0.86 per cent, to trade at Rs 1,52,715 per 10 grams, with a business turnover of 1,557 lots recorded during the session.

Market analysts attributed the upward movement to new positions being created by participants, which helped push prices higher.

In international markets, gold futures also registered gains, rising 0.89 per cent to USD 4,921 per ounce in New York.

“Gold traded positive with gains of ₹1,500 or 1% at ₹1,52,850 as CME Gold found support near $4,850 and recovered towards $4,915. However, the broader structure still reflects a weak undertone with lower highs and lower lows in place. A decisive break above $5,000 on CME would be required to negate the short-term weakness and revive bullish momentum.

Fed’s meeting minutes and China’s market reopening are likely to inject additional volatility in the coming sessions. Immediate support is placed near ₹1,48,000, while resistance remains around ₹1,55,000,” says Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities.

Record-breaking investments have flowed into gold and silver schemes, with exchange-traded funds (ETFs) linked to these metals attracting Rs 33,503 crore in January—marking the first occasion when their inflows surpassed those of equity funds. For investors in gold or silver ETFs, holdings exceeding one year qualify for long-term capital gains tax at 12.5%. The US Dollar Index was firm as the US weekly ADP data (January 31) came in at 10.25K jobs Vs the upwardly revised prior data of 7.75K jobs. Empire manufacturing at 7.1 in February beat the estimate of 6.20, though NAHB Housing Index (February ) at 36 trailed the forecast of 38.

Today’s US data include housing starts, industrial production, and FOMC minutes of January 28 meeting.

Gold, currently 1% up at $4923 ahead of the release of the FOMC minutes of January 28 meeting, is expected to trade with a bearish tilt in short term. Rallies should be sold into for possible targets of $4670 and $4500, says Praveen Singh, Head of Commodities and Currencies, Mirae Asset ShareKhan.

Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvi Finmart says that precious metals are currently experiencing significant price swings, although major support levels are expected to remain intact. He said silver is likely to find support around $63.90 per troy ounce, while gold is expected to sustain support near $4,770 per troy ounce on a weekly closing basis.

He further said that both gold and silver may continue to trade with heightened volatility due to movements in the dollar index, developments in US-Iran negotiations, the release of important US economic indicators, and prevailing geopolitical uncertainties.

In the short term, gold is seen having support between $4,880 and $4,824 per troy ounce, with resistance placed in the $4,955 to $5,000 range. For silver, support is expected between $71.20 and $68.80, while resistance is projected at $76 to $78.40 per troy ounce during the current trading session.

On the MCX, gold is expected to receive support in the Rs 1,49,800–1,47,700 band, with resistance between Rs 1,53,150 and Rs 1,55,500. Silver is projected to have support at Rs 2,24,400–2,18,800 and resistance at Rs 2,32,200–2,36,000. Jain recommended refraining from initiating fresh positions in either metal this week, pointing to the holiday in Chinese markets and ongoing developments related to the US-Iran discussions.

Gold and silver futures began Wednesday’s session on a stronger note on the Multi Commodity Exchange, even as reduced geopolitical concerns following progress in discussions between the United States and Iran in Geneva limited safe-haven buying interest in precious metals.

Gold futures for April 2026 delivery on MCX advanced by Rs 1,885, or 1.2 percent, to Rs 1,53,303 per 10 grams. Silver futures scheduled for March 5, 2026 settlement also moved higher, rising Rs 4,556, or 2 percent, to Rs 2,33,339 per kilogram.

Although rising imports of gold and silver have widened the trade deficit, the underlying patterns for the two metals differ significantly.

During April to December, the average price of gold increased by nearly 25 percent year-on-year to $94,554 per kilogram. The sharp rise in prices made buyers more cautious, leading to weaker demand. Commerce department data showed that gold import volumes fell 18.3 percent to 522 tonnes over the nine-month period. However, because of the higher per-unit value, the overall import bill edged up 1.8 percent to $49.4 billion.

Silver, on the other hand, followed a contrasting trajectory. Even though its average price climbed 46.7 percent to $1,357 per kilogram, import volumes surged 56 percent to 5,727 tonnes. Consequently, the value of silver imports more than doubled to $7.8 billion during April to December, compared with $3.4 billion in the corresponding nine-month period of 2024. The divergence is partly explained by silver’s substantial industrial applications, while gold is primarily regarded as an investment asset.

“Lightweight jewellery is being picked up by customers,” said Suvankar Sen, managing director. “In the current quarter, we are expecting the value growth to go up 25% vis-a-vis the same quarter last year. However, volume-wise, there will be a degrowth.”

The Reserve Bank of India has put forward draft proposals to expand the range of foreign exchange operations that banks can undertake. The changes would permit lenders to hedge their exposure to gold prices in overseas markets and formally recognise the ability of authorised dealers to enter into rupee-denominated non-deliverable derivative contracts with offshore counterparties.

Under the draft framework released on Tuesday, authorised dealers would also be allowed to carry out transactions outside standard market hours and engage with other authorised dealers, International Financial Services Centre banking units, overseas banking branches and foreign entities. The move is intended to enhance price discovery for clients and contribute to greater depth in the currency market.

According to currency market participants, the proposed amendments are expected to strengthen price discovery mechanisms while granting banks increased operational flexibility.

The Reserve Bank of India further clarified that banks designated under the gold monetisation scheme, as well as those authorised to provide forward gold contracts to domestic customers, would be permitted to hedge their gold price risk exposure.

India’s merchandise trade gap expanded to a three-month peak of $34.68 billion in January, compared with $23.43 billion in the same month last year.

Total imports climbed 19 percent to $71.24 billion, largely propelled by higher purchases of gold and silver, while exports edged up just 0.6 percent to $36.56 billion. The last time imports were higher was in October 2025, when they touched $76.1 billion. Shipments to the United States declined 21.7 percent year-on-year to $6.59 billion in January, impacted by 50 percent tariffs imposed at the time, which have since been lowered to 18 percent. In December, the trade deficit had stood at $25 billion.

Gold imports surged more than four times to $12.07 billion in January compared with a year earlier, while silver imports jumped 127 percent to $2 billion. On a month-on-month basis, exports fell 5.08 percent from $38.51 billion recorded in December.

Precious metals witnessed a decline of about 2 per cent in the national capital on Tuesday, as muted demand and weak global signals weighed on prices. Silver fell to Rs 2.45 lakh per kilogram, while gold slipped to Rs 1.57 lakh per 10 grams.

Data from the All India Sarafa Association showed that silver prices dropped by Rs 5,000, or nearly 2 per cent, to Rs 2,45,000 per kilogram, inclusive of all taxes, compared with Monday’s closing level of Rs 2,50,000 per kg.

In the bullion segment, gold of 99.9 per cent purity declined by Rs 2,200, or 1.4 per cent, to Rs 1,57,000 per 10 grams, inclusive of all taxes. The precious metal had ended the previous session at Rs 1,59,200 per 10 grams.

Gold Rate Today Live: Gold down for the second consecutive day as Iran talks eyed

Spot gold has extended its decline to the second straight day on Tuesday as investors adopt a cautious stance ahead of the US-Iran talks beginning in Geneva today. The yellow metal is currently trading with a loss of around 1.20% at $4928.

In addition, US-led talks on Ukraine are also scheduled to start in Geneva on Tuesday.

That the US Dollar Index is a bit firmer also weighs on gold.

The US President Trump said that he will be indirectly involved in Iran talks. Geopolitical worries have eased a bit as Iran says that the US position in nuclear talks has shifted to a more realistic one now.

Gold is expected to remain under mild pressure ahead of the conclusion of Iran talks. A convincing nuclear deal can take the metal sharply lower though.

Support is at $4850/$4800/$4750. Resistance is at $5000/$5050, says Praveen Singh, Head of Commodities and Currencies, Mirae Asset ShareKhan.

Maneesh Sharma, AVP for commodities and currencies at Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers, said the recent pullback in prices follows a sharp rally witnessed in January, as markets attempt to steady themselves after intense speculative activity.

He noted that subdued trading volumes in the United States, along with the continued closure of Chinese markets due to public holidays, may dampen investor sentiment in the short term.

“Market movements this week could remain influenced by the holidays in China & other Asian markets including Taiwan & South Korea amid anticipation of future rate adjustments,” says Sharma.

Gold Rate Today Live: Gold, Silver ETFs drop

Gold and silver ETFs declined by as much as 4 per cent on Tuesday, tracking weakness in precious metal futures on the MCX amid muted global signals. The fall marked a second consecutive session of losses for these schemes.

Among silver-focused funds, Edelweiss Silver ETF and ICICI Prudential Silver ETF recorded the steepest declines of around 4 per cent, while Zerodha Silver ETF slipped nearly 3 per cent. Other silver ETFs, including Kotak Silver ETF, Tata Silver ETF, Groww Silver ETF, SBI Silver ETF and DSP Silver ETF, also traded lower, falling by up to 2 per cent each.

On the gold side, Baroda BNP Paribas Gold ETF dropped about 4 per cent to touch an intraday low of Rs 146.8. Several other schemes, such as UTI Gold ETF, Nippon India Gold ETF, Zerodha Gold ETF and HDFC Gold ETF, registered losses of up to 2 per cent during the session.

The strong price momentum in gold and silver over the last few months led Indian investors, who had limited gains in domestic equities, to channel record inflows into precious metal products in recent months. In January, monthly inflows into gold and silver schemes exceeded those into equity funds for the first time. Exchange-traded funds focused on precious metals attracted Rs 33,503 crore during the month, more than double December’s Rs 15,600 crore and above the Rs 24,029 crore invested in equity schemes. Meanwhile, inflows into equity mutual funds declined 14 per cent in January compared with the previous month.

In the last 18 months, gold has climbed 101 per cent in dollar terms and 116 per cent in rupee terms. Silver has delivered even stronger gains, rising 167 per cent in dollar terms and 198 per cent in rupee terms.
