Gold and silver exchange-traded funds declined by as much as 3% on Tuesday after gold and silver futures on the MCX opened slightly weaker, as investors balanced the impact of a firmer US dollar against ongoing uncertainty over US tariff policies and escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Among gold-based funds, Groww Gold ETF, SBI Gold ETF and HDFC Gold ETF each dropped about 3%. UTI Gold ETF slipped roughly 2%, while most other gold ETFs showed little movement. Silver ETFs also trended lower, with most recording losses of around 1%.

Silver Price Today Live: Gold, silver futures down

Gold and silver began Tuesday’s session slightly in the red on the MCX, as market participants weighed the impact of a firmer U.S. dollar against persistent uncertainty over US tariff policy and escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

April 2026 gold futures on the MCX declined by Rs 983, or 0.55%, to Rs 1,60,615 per 10 grams. Silver futures for March 5, 2026 delivery also slipped, falling Rs 1,006, or 0.3%, to Rs 2,64,327 per kilogram.

In global trade, spot gold dropped 1.5% to $5,150.38 per ounce as of 0125 GMT, after earlier touching its highest level in more than three weeks during the session. Spot silver also retreated, sliding 3.1% to $85.50 per ounce following a rally on Monday that had pushed it to a two-week peak.

Gold Rate Today Live: FM Sitharaman on gold price rise

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said that the recent surge in gold prices is largely driven by substantial buying by central banks around the world. She added that both the government and the Reserve Bank of India are closely monitoring gold imports, although current levels are not considered “alarming.”

Between April and December last year, India’s gold imports, measured in value terms, rose by roughly USD 1 billion year-on-year to reach about USD 50 billion.
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra noted that January witnessed a sharp jump in both the value and volume of gold imports, and said the central bank is examining the data in detail.

Sitharaman pointed out that gold has traditionally been a preferred form of investment for Indian households, whether held as an asset or in the form of jewellery. Since domestic demand exceeds supply, India remains a net importer of the precious metal.

She said the situation is under observation, but emphasized that given the long-standing inclination in India toward purchasing and investing in gold, imports have not crossed any concerning threshold. Nonetheless, she reiterated that the RBI will continue to keep a close watch on the trend.

Jigar Trivedi, Senior Research Analyst at Indusind Securities, said gold prices strengthened in overseas markets on Monday as fresh concerns over tariffs drove investors toward safe-haven assets.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump revealed plans to increase global tariff rates from 10 per cent to 15 per cent after the US Supreme Court struck down his proposed “reciprocal tariffs.” He stated that the revised duties would come into force immediately, though it was not clear whether any formal order had been signed.

Against this backdrop, India deferred discussions intended to conclude an interim trade agreement with the United States.

Trivedi added that market participants were also unsettled by rising speculation about a possible US military action against Iran, with nuclear negotiations currently stalled. Nonetheless, he noted that talks between the parties are set to resume in Geneva on Thursday.

Silver Price Today Live: Silver rises 3%

Prices of precious metals rose sharply in the national capital on Monday, as heightened safe-haven buying driven by escalating global trade tensions — following the US Supreme Court’s decision against former President Donald Trump’s tariffs — pushed rates higher. Silver rallied to Rs 2.7 lakh per kilogram, while gold climbed to Rs 1.6 lakh per 10 grams.

Data from the All India Sarafa Association showed that silver advanced by Rs 8,000, marking a 3.03 per cent gain, to reach Rs 2,72,000 per kilogram (inclusive of all taxes), up from Friday’s closing price of Rs 2,64,000 per kg.

Similarly, gold of 99.9 per cent purity rose by Rs 3,300, or 2.06 per cent, to Rs 1,62,800 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes), compared with its previous close of Rs 1,59,500 per 10 grams.

Both bullion metals continued their upward trajectory on Monday, touching their highest levels in three weeks, as investors sought refuge amid renewed uncertainty in global trade dynamics.

Following a daily gain of 2.1% on Friday, which came on a weaker Dollar helping spot gold close at $5104-- highest ever weekly close, the yellow metal is currently trading with a gain of around 0.30% at $5136.

On Friday, the US Supreme Court struck down the President Trump's IEEPA-based tariffs, however the US Administration has imposed new section 122 tariffs of 15%. US 4Q advance GDP growth came in at annualized 1.4% Vs the forecast of 2.80%, though PCE price index data were largely hotter than expected. Traders continue to monitor Iran related geopolitical developments. While Trump is keeping his options open, US-Iran will hold the third round of nuclear talks on Thursday.

Gold is bid on weaker US Dollar due to tariff uncertainty and disappointing GDP data. In addition, geopolitical tensions also support the metal.

The shiny metal is expected to find good support into the dips. Closing above $5150 for two days in a row can open the way to test the next major residential around $5450.

Support is at $5100/$5040, says Praveen Singh, Head of Commodities and Currencies, Mirae Asset ShareKhan.

Gold and Silver rose to a more than three-week high, as the dollar fell after the US Supreme Court struck down a vast swathe of President Trump's tariffs on Friday and as US-Iran tensions simmered. The US Supreme Court's decision to strike down a large swath of Trump's tariffs has weakened his ability to threaten and impose tariffs at a moment's notice, but it won't end gnawing uncertainty for trade partners or companies. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said none of the countries that have reached trade deals with the US had shared plans to withdraw following the judgment.

US Supreme court did not mention anything on tariff refunds but, after announcement President trump announced temporary tariff of 15% and hoped for Congress as well for levying this tariff legally and permanently. Iran has indicated it is prepared to make concessions on its nuclear programme in talks with the US in return for the lifting of sanctions and recognition of its right to enrich uranium, as it seeks to avert a US attack.

Gold prices in the domestic market opened higher on Monday, supported by escalating tensions between the United States and Iran as well as President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 15 percent global tariff. The move came after the Supreme Court on Friday invalidated sweeping tariff measures, a development that boosted the safe-haven appeal of gold and silver.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, April gold futures were trading at Rs 1,60,600 per 10 grams at around 9:05 am, marking a rise of Rs 3,700 or 2.4 percent compared with Friday’s closing level. At the same time, March silver futures were quoted near Rs 2,68,120 per kilogram, reflecting a gain of 6 percent or Rs 15,200.

Gold prices moved within a limited band in the week ending February 20, with MCX gold hovering between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1.6 lakh per 10 grams, according to Prathamesh Mallya, DVP - Research, Non-Agri Commodities and Currencies, Angel One.

He said weaker economic readings from the United States and heightened geopolitical tensions supported bullion prices, as market participants factored in the likelihood of interest rate reductions by the Federal Reserve.

Mallya added that fresh strains in the Middle East, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and wider financial market instability have encouraged investors to seek refuge in gold as protection against uncertainty.

“Overall, the risk-off sentiment remained in precious metals in last week. We expect gold prices might move higher towards Rs 1.61 lakh per 10 grams,” he said.
