Silver Rate Today: Silver prices rise

Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, highlighted that rising geopolitical risks have been a key factor underpinning gold prices locally.

In contrast, international trends remained subdued. Spot silver declined 1.29 per cent to USD 78.69 per ounce, while gold dropped close to 1 per cent to USD 4,776.85 per ounce.

The yellow metal is likely to range trade with a bearish tilt unless oil prices come down on US-Iran talk possibility, or Warsh ignores the risk of inflation in his testimony.

Alongside geopolitical developments, investor focus has shifted to domestic factors, particularly the Senate confirmation hearing of Federal Reserve Chair nominee Kevin Warsh, whose relatively hawkish stance on monetary policy and preference for a leaner balance sheet have previously weighed on bullion. With uncertainty around both geopolitics and policy outlook persisting, gold remains under pressure.

Gold Rate Today: How to trade gold

Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvi Finmart told ET that both gold and silver are experiencing sharp fluctuations, though key support levels are likely to remain intact. He indicated that silver could hold above $64 per troy ounce, while gold may sustain near $4,550 per troy ounce on a weekly closing basis.

He expects volatility in both metals to persist this week, driven by movements in the dollar index, crude oil prices and developments related to a possible US-Iran peace agreement. For gold, immediate support is seen in the $4,788–$4,740 range, with resistance between $4,864 and $4,910 per troy ounce. Silver is expected to find support in the $78.40–$76.60 band, while resistance is pegged at $82.00–$84.40 for the day.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange of India, gold is projected to find support in the Rs 1,52,800–1,51,500 range, with resistance at Rs 1,54,850–1,55,500. Silver is seen having support between Rs 2,50,000 and Rs 2,46,600, and resistance in the Rs 2,56,000–2,59,100 zone.

Jain continues to favour a buy-on-dips approach for both metals. He suggests accumulating gold as long as it holds above Rs 1,48,000 on a closing basis, with potential upside targets of Rs 1,55,500–1,57,000. For silver, he recommends buying on declines while prices remain above Rs 2,45,000, aiming for Rs 2,59,100–2,61,600.

He said bullion markets are currently witnessing sharp volatility, with silver expected to sustain its key support near $62.00 per troy ounce and gold likely to hold around $4,470.00 per troy ounce on a closing basis this week. Overall sentiment, he told ET, is likely to remain unsettled amid fluctuations in the dollar index, crude oil prices, and uncertainty surrounding US-Iran negotiations.

“Gold has support at $4740-4680 while resistance at $4840-4884 per troy ounce and silver has support at $74.00-70.70, while resistance is at $78.80-80.40 per troy ounce in today’s session. At MCX, gold has a support at Rs 1,51,100-1,49,200 and resistance at Rs 1,53,800-1,55,000 while silver has support at Rs 2,40,000-2,34,400 and resistance at Rs 2,47,700-2,51,000. We suggest waiting for some clarity on the US and Iran peace deal for taking positions in gold and silver,” the analyst added.

Spot silver falls over 1%; gold down to $4,805

Precious metals remained weak in global markets. Spot silver fell by $1.09, or 1.35%, to $79.71 per ounce, while gold was down 0.52% at $4,805.09 per ounce.

“Gold started the week on a weaker note, reflecting a shift in geopolitical and macro conditions over the weekend,” said Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst, Commodities at HDFC Securities. He further noted that tensions around the Strait of Hormuz escalated quickly, with Iran reimposing strict control less than 24 hours after reopening it, and the US seizing an Iranian cargo vessel that was attempting to bypass its blockade.

“These developments have raised concerns over the stability of the ceasefire and increased uncertainty around the US-Iran peace talks. The renewed escalation has revived concerns over higher energy prices and inflation, strengthening the dollar and weighing on precious metals,” Gandhi added.

Gold Rate Today: Akshaya Tritiya sees muted god buying

Gold buying during one of the major festive occasions remained subdued on Sunday, as record-high prices discouraged jewellery purchases, outweighing a slight rise in investment-led demand.

The festival of Akshaya Tritiya—considered the second most significant gold-buying occasion after Dhanteras—was marked across the country, with buying precious metals traditionally seen as a sign of prosperity.

According to Amit Modak of PN Gadgil and Sons, the sharp rise in prices dampened jewellery demand. He noted that while volumes declined as consumers stayed cautious, the overall value of purchases increased due to elevated price levels.

Gold had touched a peak of $5,594.82 per ounce on January 29 and is currently trading near $4,861.

In India—the world’s second-largest gold consumer—futures prices ended at ₹1,54,609 per 10 grams on Friday, roughly 63 per cent higher than levels seen during last year’s Akshaya Tritiya.

Surendra Mehta, national secretary of the India Bullion and Jewellers Association, told Reuters that demand was weaker than usual across most parts of the country, barring a few southern states.

A Mumbai-based jeweller indicated that retail customers are increasingly opting for gold coins, given their easier resale, even as retailers offered concessions on making charges to encourage jewellery purchases.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange of India, silver futures jumped by Rs 13,868, or 5.7 per cent, over the past week to close at Rs 2.57 lakh per kilogram. Gold also advanced, rising Rs 1,957, or 1.3 per cent, to settle at Rs 1.54 lakh per 10 grams.

Gold Rate Today: What’s in focus this week?

Market participants are expected to track crude oil movements closely, alongside major US economic releases such as retail sales, housing data and consumer sentiment figures. In addition, preliminary PMI readings for manufacturing and services from economies like the UK and the US will remain in focus.

The geopolitical situation turned fluid after Iran initially indicated that commercial vessels could resume passage through the Strait of Hormuz, only to later reinstate restrictions following Washington’s decision to continue its blockade of Iranian ports.

On the domestic side, India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Iranian envoy to lodge a formal protest after two Indian-flagged oil tankers were forced to alter course in the Strait of Hormuz amid reported gunfire from Iranian forces.

Gold, Silver Rate Today Highlights: Which way are gold and silver prices headed in the near term and will the bull run remain intact? This week oil prices are back in focus as fears of inflationary pressures globally will hit gold and silver prices. A high inflation scenario will discourage the US Federal Reserve from lowering rates, which in turn is not favourable for gold prices.

Market participants will also keep an eye on the US Senate’s confirmation hearing for Kevin Warsh as the next Federal Reserve Chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is expected to adopt a more accommodative stance on monetary policy, which could provide additional support to gold and silver prices.
