Silver Price Today Live: Silver drops sharply over 5%

Prices of precious metals fell sharply by more than 5 per cent in the national capital on Friday, as weak demand in the local market weighed on sentiment. Silver dropped to Rs 2.55 lakh per kilogram, while gold slipped to Rs 1.58 lakh per 10 grams.

Data from the All India Sarafa Association showed that silver declined by Rs 13,500, or 5.03 per cent, settling at Rs 2,55,000 per kilogram, inclusive of all taxes. The metal had ended the previous session unchanged at Rs 2,68,500 per kg on Thursday.

Gold of 99.9 per cent purity also recorded a decline, falling Rs 2,400, or 1.5 per cent, to Rs 1,58,500 per 10 grams, inclusive of taxes, compared with the previous closing level of Rs 1,60,900 per 10 grams.

Gold Price Today Live: Gold: Recovering after steep decline

Yesterday, spot gold tumbled on Bloomberg breaking a story that Kremlin has issued a memo that outlines a proposal for Russia to return to Dollar standard. The document further suggested cooperation between the two nations on multiple issues including natural gas, fossil fuels, offshore oil, critical minerals, etc tied to Ukraine peace deal.

Neither Russia nor US has commented officially on the document.

It is advisable to take the Russia story with a grain of salt.

Gold fell more than $200 before recouping nearly half the losses; it is currently trading with an intra-day gain of around 1.20% at $4983. Gold and other commodities were caught in the downdraft of sinking equities that tumbled on tech stocks concerns.

Investors look forward to the US CPI report to be released today. Dollar is slightly firmer.

Gold is largely expected to continue to trade in the short term range of $4700-$5100, however the metal is becoming increasingly vulnerable to further downside correction unless geopolitical tensions flare. Regaining the $5k handle will be crucial for the yellow metal to ward off some of the technical selling pressure, says Praveen Singh, Head of commodities, Mirae Asset ShareKhan.

Gold Price Today Live: Overall tone remains volatile

“Gold traded positive in early session but overall tone remains volatile to weak after yesterday’s sharp sell-off from ₹1,58,000 to ₹1,54,000, as prices failed to sustain above the ₹1,60,000 mark. Resistance is now firmly placed near ₹1,60,000, and if gold continues to trade below ₹1,56,000, a retest of the ₹1,51,000 support zone cannot be ruled out.

All eyes are on US CPI data this evening, as inflation numbers will heavily influence the Fed’s rate-cut timeline and determine the next directional move in gold,” says Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities.

Gold futures trade mixed on MCX; near-term contracts gain while August contract slips

Gold futures traded mixed on the MCX as of February 13, 2026 (14:39), with near-term contracts showing mild strength while far-month contracts faced pressure. The April contract rose Rs 1,488, or 0.97 per cent, to Rs 1,54,324 per 10 grams, while June gained Rs 1,044, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 1,58,040. However, the August contract declined Rs 1,418, or 0.87 per cent, to Rs 1,61,987 per 10 grams.

Gold Price Today Live: Gold futures rise to Rs 1,53,880

Gold futures advanced on Friday, rising by Rs 1,044 to reach Rs 1,53,880 per 10 grams, supported by renewed buying interest from traders amid firm demand in the physical market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, April delivery contracts climbed Rs 1,044, or 0.68 per cent, to trade at Rs 1,53,880 per 10 grams, with a turnover of 1,538 lots during the session. Analysts attributed the uptick in prices to the creation of fresh positions by market participants.

In the international market, gold futures also moved higher, gaining 0.81 per cent to trade at USD 4,962 per ounce in New York.

Abhishek Bhilwaria of BhilwariaMF, an AMFI-registered mutual fund distributor, told ET that investors dealing with elevated prices may find a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) to be the most practical approach for handling the sharp fluctuations currently visible in gold and silver markets.

He advised adopting the SIP method particularly for silver, given its comparatively higher volatility and steep price movements. By investing fixed sums at regular intervals through Gold and Silver ETFs or digital investment platforms, investors can gradually create a core hedge allocation of around 10–15% in their portfolios, reducing the risk associated with making a single large investment during peak market levels.

According to Dr. Joseph Thomas of Emkay Wealth Management, the ongoing rise in gold and silver prices reflects a deeper change in global investment patterns rather than speculative activity. He noted that investors are increasingly reallocating capital toward precious metals as part of a broader structural shift.

He further explained that continued gold purchases by central banks, a more supportive interest rate environment, and strengthening industrial demand for silver are collectively reshaping how these assets are perceived. Precious metals, he said, are now being regarded as essential components of investment portfolios instead of short-term protective positions. Although price fluctuations may occur in the near term, the outlook over the medium to long horizon continues to favour maintaining balanced exposure to both gold and silver.

Gold Price Today Live: Gold, silver futures recover

Gold and silver futures staged a recovery as investors returned to the market to buy at lower levels following a steep fall of up to 10 percent in the previous session. The earlier selloff was triggered by a sharp strengthening of the US dollar after better-than-expected January employment data dampened hopes of imminent interest rate cuts.

During today’s trade, MCX silver futures for March 5, 2026 advanced 2.2 percent, climbing Rs 5,363 to Rs 2,41,798 per kilogram. Similarly, April gold futures moved up by Rs 2,001, or 1.3 percent, to Rs 1,54,837 per 10 grams.

In the preceding session, March silver futures had slumped 10 percent, shedding Rs 26,000 to settle at Rs 2,36,435 per kilogram. Gold futures also declined sharply, falling by more than Rs 6,000, or 4 percent, to close at Rs 1,52,836 per 10 grams.

A report by Emkay Wealth Management advised existing investors to maintain their exposure to gold and silver within a well-diversified portfolio. The report suggested that any additional investments should be made gradually, ideally during phases of price correction rather than after sharp rallies.

It also noted that portfolios carrying a relatively high allocation to precious metals, especially where combined exposure to gold and silver exceeds 25 to 30 percent of total assets, may require reassessment. In such cases, investors should consider consulting a professional advisor to evaluate partial profit booking while continuing to retain a strategic allocation.

For investors planning to enter the market after the recent surge, the report recommended a measured approach. Allocating roughly 5 to 10 percent of the overall portfolio to precious metals was suggested as a more balanced starting point.

The report further highlighted the importance of spreading investments over time to reduce the impact of market volatility. Investors may consider staggered investments through avenues such as physical gold, gold and silver exchange-traded funds, gold mutual funds, and other investment products linked to precious metals.

Silver Price Today Live: Spot silver rises

Spot silver advanced 2.1 percent to $76.76 per ounce, recovering after tumbling 11 percent on Wednesday.

The US dollar traded largely unchanged against major currencies on Thursday, stabilising following mixed readings from the latest batch of US economic data. A firmer dollar typically makes commodities priced in the greenback costlier for investors using other currencies.

Figures released on Wednesday indicated that the US labour market started 2026 on a stronger-than-anticipated note, bolstering expectations that the Federal Reserve could maintain higher interest rates for an extended period.

Nonfarm payrolls increased by 130,000 in January, compared with a downwardly revised gain of 48,000 in December, while the unemployment rate inched lower to 4.3 percent.

Data published on Thursday also showed initial jobless claims declined to 227,000 in the week ended February 7.

Separately, Federal Reserve Governor Stephen Miran said on Thursday that the central bank’s current policy stance poses risks to US economic expansion, which he noted is otherwise being supported by several policies of the Trump administration, including tax reductions. He reiterated his argument in favour of further rate cuts.

Market participants are now awaiting the release of inflation figures later in the day for additional clarity on the Fed’s future policy direction.

Among other precious metals, spot platinum climbed 1.7 percent to $2,033.15 per ounce, while palladium gained 1.4 percent to $1,639.99.

Gold Price Today Live: Gold prices recover

Gold and silver prices recovered on Friday as investors stepped in to buy at lower levels following sharp declines in the previous session, when both metals slipped to around one-week lows. The earlier fall accelerated after prices broke below important support levels, as stronger-than-expected US employment data reduced expectations of near-term interest rate cuts and increased selling pressure.

Spot gold rose about 1 percent to $4,966.83 per ounce by 0127 GMT, rebounding after dropping more than 3 percent in the previous session and briefly slipping below the key $5,000 mark. US gold futures for April delivery also moved higher, gaining 0.7 percent to trade at $4,985.40 per ounce.

In times of uncertainty, gold is the go to bet and the state of the geopolitical affairs and global economy in the last few years have kept gold prices in focus. In India, RBI has purchased several tonnes of gold and the share of the yellow metal in India’s foreign exchange reserves has gone up drastically. India currently holds the world’s eighth largest gold reserves at around 880 tonnes, according to the latest data from the World Gold Council. America has the highest - almost ten times that of India.
