Iran tensions: IndiGo extends flights cancellation till February 11; Tbilisi, Baku, Almaty and Tashkent hit
NEW DELHI: IndiGo on Tuesday extended the cancellation of its flights to Tbilisi, Almaty, Baku and Tashkent till February 11, citing the current situation in Iran.
Earlier, the airline had cancelled flights to these destinations only till January 28.
In a post on X, IndiGo said it had reviewed recent developments around Iran and made further changes to its flight schedule.
As a result, all flights to and from Tbilisi in Georgia, Almaty in Kazakhstan, Tashkent in Uzbekistan and Baku in Azerbaijan will remain cancelled till February 11.
The airline said these routes usually pass through Iranian airspace. Due to the present situation, IndiGo is avoiding flying over the region.
Flights from India to these cities normally take around six to seven hours. IndiGo operates A320neo aircraft on these routes, which do not have the range or fuel capacity to fly longer alternative routes.
Tensions between Iran and the United States have increased, raising concerns about a possible military conflict.
