Kandla becomes fastest major port in India to reach 100 million tons in FY 26; posts strong YoY growth
Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla has become the fastest major port in India to cross 100 million tonnes (MMT) of cargo in the ongoing financial year 2025–26, achieving the milestone significantly earlier than in previous years.
The port recorded 6.78% year-on-year growth, underscoring sustained momentum in cargo movement, the Kandla Port Authority said.
According to DPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh, several cargo categories saw steep increases compared to the same period last year: "Fertilisers – 81.43% increase; Iron & Steel – 50% increase; Containerised Cargo – 61.4% increase; POL – Kandla – 34.77% increase and Wooden Logs – 22.44% increase."
DPA Kandla said the achievement reflects the port’s “exceptional operational efficiency, robust cargo-handling capabilities and seamless coordination among all stakeholders and port users.”
The port added that reaching 100 MMT this early "positions DPA Kandla at the forefront of India’s maritime growth story," strengthening its reputation as the country’s most reliable gateway for EXIM trade.
The port’s ability to handle rising cargo volumes across liquid, dry bulk, break-bulk and container segments also aligns with the government’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision, aimed at building world-class port-led infrastructure.
The port authority said the milestone supports the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, adding that DPA Kandla "continues to maintain its position as India’s top-performing major port, leading by speed, scale and skill."
