Meet Anand Piramal, Mukesh Ambani's future son-in-law

NEW DELHI: Unless you've been living under a rock, by now you would have heard the news of Isha Ambani (the only daughter of the country's richest man Mukesh Ambani) getting married to industrialist Ajay Piramal's son, Anand in December.


Anand Piramal is the Executive Director of Piramal Group, a global business conglomerate and the founder of Piramal Realty. Prior to that, he had also founded Piramal Swasthaya, a rural healthcare initiative.

Sources told TOI that Anand and Isha have been friends for long and their families have shared a strong friendship for over four decades.

Anand proposed to Isha at a temple in Mahabaleshwar. The couple celebrated the occasion at a lunch with their parents Nita, Mukesh, Swati and Ajay.

Here are few lesser known facts about Anand Piramal and Isha Ambani:

* Anand majored in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, according to the website of Piramal Realty.

* The website also stated that he has played a pivotal role in the acquisition of prime land parcels across Mumbai and raised $434 million from Goldman Sachs and Warburg Pincus for the company.

* A piece of advice given by the richest man in India, Mukesh Ambani to Anand: "Being an entrepreneur is like playing cricket and being a consultant like watching it as a commentator," Ambani, a long-time family friend, told the young Piramal drawing parallels from his favourite sport. “In the long run, if you want to play the game, grab the opportunity without wasting time and try to achieve all your goals by the time you are 30. Play the game, make mistakes, but pad up.”

* Isha Ambani is on the boards of Reliance Jio Infocomm and Reliance Retail. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and South Asian Studies from Yale University and will be completing her Master in Business Administration programme from the Graduate School of Business, Stanford by June.

Isha's twin Akash Ambani's wedding with the daughter of diamantaire Russel Mehta, Shloka was also recently announced. Both the weddings are planned for December.
