More than 17,600 companies closed, 1.38 lakh new firms set up this year

NEW DELHI: Minister of state for corporate affairs Harsh Malhotra on Tuesday shared data and said that 17,654 companies have been closed in the country.

Malhotra in a written response to a question in Rajya Sabha shared the data that showed that 17,654 companies have been closed down till January 26 in the current financial year and a total of 1,38,027 firms were registered during the same period

The figure covers companies that were amalgamated, converted into LLPs, liquidated, dissolved, or removed from official records.

The number of closed companies was 22,044 in 2023-24 and 84,801 in 2022-23. As of January 26 in the current fiscal, 1,38,027 companies were registered, compared to 1,85,318 in 2023-24 and 1,59,302 in 2022-23.

The minister was responding to questions by YSRCP Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani.
