Mumbai calling: HLL relocates Bangalore staff
MUMBAI: It was considered a mammoth task of transition. FMCG major Hindustan Lever, however, has achieved the same within five months of announcing a plan to move its Bangalore Brookefields office to Mumbai.
Out of a total 226 employees working at the Brookefields officespread across a sprawling 13-acre land which housed HLL’s foods division about 100 have moved to the Mumbai office at Backbay Reclamation.
This relocation also marks the first step towards HLL shifting its corporate office to Andheri, a Mumbai suburb. The new corporate office will come up by 2008.
Of the balance 126, nearly half have been redeployed to other functions at HLL, while the balance are in the process of being either outplaced or redeployed. Most of the officers and managers, who could not shift to Mumbai for personal reasons, have been redeployed in functions at Bangalore and locations of their choice based on suitability.
The company made all efforts to ensure that all people impacted by this change have been well taken care of. Out of a total of 226 employees who were based in Bangalore about a 100 are moving and a significant number have been redeployed in other locations, said an HLL spokesman.
To assist in the outplacement, HLL contacted over 60 firms and 25 placement agencies to arrange for multiple job interviews for several employees. The company has also provided spouse relocation support to place them.
The company also completed negotiations with the staff union in November 2006 and settlements reached.
