NEW DELHI: In possible first, the
US Federal Aviation Administration
’s (
FAA
) latest audit of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) did not lead to any adverse observations about the Indian safety regulator.
Highly placed sources said that after the recent audit, the FAA “noted the regulatory and manual reforms carried out by the DGCA and endorsed them”.
This basically means Air India and Vistara will not give any issues in adding and launching, respectively, the US flights. While AI will add more flights as it gets more planes, Vistara has been toying with that idea for a while now.
“The FAA audit went off extremely well. India did not get any adverse observations. On the contrary, in about 90% issues the DGCA got appreciation from the FAA. In a few cases, they noted that it was a work in progress and was likely to be completed soon. Overall it was all positive and no negative word or view expressed in their assessment. This was the best ever audit for the Indian DGCA by the FAA in terms of taking all the steps required to ensure safe air travel,” said sources.
