Optiemus Electronics partners with Tata group’s Tejas Networks for manufacturing telecom equipment
NEW DELHI: Domestic contract manufacturer Optiemus Electronics said on Tuesday that it has bagged a contract from Tata group’s Tejas Networks as it forayed into the telecom equipment manufacturing market.
The company, which makes electronics products such as smartwatches, laptops and smart devices, said it is working with Tejas as a manufacturing partner for a wide range of telecom equipment products like 4G base band units, remote radio head, Optical Network Terminal (ONT), Optical Network Unit (ONU), broadband switches and routers.
"The announcement comes against the backdrop of India's ongoing efforts to move towards self-reliance in the design and manufacturing of telecom equipments. Optiemus aims to significantly enhance the domestic manufacturing capabilities of telecom equipment," Optiemus Electronics' managing director A Gururaj said.
V Sembian, Chief Supply Chain Officer of Tejas Networks said the partnership with Optiemus will help provide a boost to the domestic manufacturing of telecom products.
The move is aimed at building self-reliance in India for telecom products and is aligned with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, the companies said.
The products will be manufactured at Optiemus’ state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Noida, in Uttar Pradesh.
The announcement saw the share price of Optiemus move up by 12% and close the day at Rs 566.5 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The collaboration comes as India steps up efforts to attain self-reliance in design and manufacturing of telecom equipment and products.
Optiemus aims to significantly enhance the domestic manufacturing capabilities of telecom equipment products within the country.
Tejas Networks is one of the country’s key companies involved in designing and manufacturing of telecom and networking products, and is also building up the 4G and 5G network for state-owned BSNL and MTNL.
