Stock market today: BSE Sensex, the 30-share benchmark index, surged by nearly 592 points on Monday, driven by gains in IT and banking shares and a positive trend in global markets. The index closed at 81,973.05, after reaching an intraday high of 82,072.17, representing a 0.73 percent increase.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty rose by 163.70 points or 0.66 percent to settle at 25,127.95. During the day, the index climbed to 25,159.75, a gain of 195.5 points or 0.78 percent.

Several companies from the Sensex pack, including Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro, ITC, Infosys, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Titan, and HCL Technologies, were among the top gainers. However, Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, UltraTech Cement, Nestle India, Axis Bank, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) experienced losses.

"The Indian market is demonstrating resilience, with subdued Q2 earnings expectations seemingly priced in and oil prices declining. The IT and financial sectors are attracting buying interest after recent corrections," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said.

European markets showed mixed performance in mid-session deals, while the global oil benchmark Brent crude fell by 2.52 percent to USD 77.05 a barrel. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Seoul closed higher, while Hong Kong ended in negative territory. Wall Street concluded Friday's session with gains.

According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 4,162.66 crore on Friday, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 3,730.87 crore. On the previous trading day, the BSE Sensex fell by 230.05 points to close at 81,381.36, and the NSE Nifty slipped by 34.20 points to settle at 24,964.25.
