Suzlon powers Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s maiden wind project
AHMEDABAD: Suzlon Group, one of the leading renewable energy solutions providers in the world, announced the completion and commissioning of the 4.20 MW maiden wind project for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The wind energy project, located at Nakhatrana, Kutch comprises of two units of Suzlon’s newest product variant, S97 120 meter hybrid tower wind turbine. It will help in offsetting 9,000 tonnes CO2 emissions annually.
S97 120 meter is the world’s tallest all-steel hybrid tower which ensures 12% - 15% higher energy yield and further enables viability of sub-optimal wind sites. It achieved best in industry class Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 35% for a period of 12 months from the launch in November 2014 and was also incidentally, inaugurated by chief minister Anandiben Patel.
Mukesh Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), said, “The investment in wind energy is part of AMC’s long term focus on sustainable development and harnessing green energy is one step towards that. Renewable energy is one area where even at a municipal level we can show global leadership and where we all can play our small part in helping to mitigate climate change challenges.”
Tulsi Tanti, Chairman and Managing Director, Suzlon Group, said, “This is the second instance in the state where a local self-governing urban body has chosen us to harness renewable energy.”
As of March 2016, Gujarat’s total wind installations stood at ~4,038 MW, out of which 1,842 MW has been contributed by Suzlon.
The organisation holds 36% of the Indian market share with a total installed capacity of 9,500 MW, established over the last 20 years.
