Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Launch, Route & Fares: The much awaited Vande Bharat sleeper train is all set to be launched soon, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced. The new train will be flagged off by PM Narendra Modi in the next few weeks. Vande Bharat sleeper trains, aimed at providing superior experience to Rajdhani Express trains, are for long-distance overnight travel. The new Vande Bharat sleeper train will have a total of 16 air-conditioned coaches with a passenger capacity of 823. The train will have 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches and one AC 1st coach.

Vande Bharat sleeper train has ergonomically designed berths with improved cushioning. The train has a redesigned ladder for passengers to climb easily to upper berths. The train enhanced ride comfort with superior suspension and noise reduction.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Route: Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the first Vande Bharat sleeper train will run on the Guwahati-Kolkata route. The train is expected to be launched in the second half of January 2026 between Guwahati in Assam and Howrah in West Bengal.

Vande Bharat sleeper is a semi-high speed train, capable of achieving a maximum speed of 180 kmph, and an operational speed of 160 kmph. However, its speed between Guwahati-Kolkata will be contingent on the track and infrastructure on the route.

The Vande Bharat sleeper train, like its AC chair car version, is a self-propelled train set, allowing for faster acceleration and deceleration - which translates into faster average speeds. The train also makes use of regenerative braking, making it energy efficient.

The new train has an aerodynamic exterior look - similar to bullet trains. There is a driver cabin at each end for faster turnaround between journeys. The train has automatic exterior exit and entry doors operated by the loco pilot.

The new Vande Bharat sleeper train will have modular bio-vacuum toilets, similar to the ones in airplanes. The first AC coach will have a shower cubicle area for passengers. One toilet on the train is also divyangjan-friendly.

Vande Bharat sleeper trains come fitted with the indigenous KAVACH anti-collision system. The train also has improved fire safety aerosol-based fire detection and suppression system.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Ticket Price: The one way fare between Guwahati and Kolkata will start at Rs 2,300, which will be the ticket price for the AC 3-tier coach. The fare for AC 2-tier will be Rs 3,000 and that of AC 1st coach will be Rs 3,600 per passenger.

According to Indian Railways, the Guwahati-Howrah Vande Bharat sleeper train will benefit districts of Kamrup Metropolitan and Bongaigaon in Assam, and Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Maldah, Murshidabad, Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Howrah in West Bengal.

Indian Railways says that the Vande Bharat sleeper train makes use of world-class technological features and ride comfort. Recently, Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the train’s successful trial run at 180 kmph speed, where three glasses of water and one mounted above arrangement of three remain steady with no water spilling out even at such high speeds.
