Watch: Sundar Pichai sips 'Bharat GI' coffee at AI Summit; what the 'world exclusive' initiative is about
Indian GI Coffee came into the spotlight as Google CEO Sundar Pichai made an appearance at the Bharat GI Coffee Lounge in Bharat Mandapam during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. This is part of the newly launched "Bharat GI" initiative, which is a national program to promote Geographical Indication products from India.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal shared the moment on X, stating "When @SundarPichai drops by for a sip, you know it's truly worth it! The world is raising a cup to Bharat GI Coffee at #IndiaAIImpactSummit2026." The event is being held at the Bharat GI Coffee Lounge from February 17-20.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) introduced this brand to showcase India's unique heritage to the world. The initiative positions these special products as "A World Exclusive," aiming to give them the international recognition they deserve.
Elaborating on the initiative, Goyal posted on X, "Dear world, ready for a cup of something truly exclusive? India's GI products carry centuries of skill, community knowledge, and geography that cannot be replicated." He emphasised how Bharat GI starts with Indian GI Coffee, inviting global audiences to experience India's authenticity through its distinct aroma and flavor.
Located on the first floor of Hall 14 in Bharat Mandapam, Bharat GI is India’s national umbrella initiative for Geographical Indication (GI) products, launched by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). It aims to promote India’s unique products — such as coffee, spices, handicrafts, and textiles — which carry the distinct heritage, skills, and geography of their regions. Branded as “A World Exclusive”, Bharat GI seeks to give these products global recognition, premium positioning, and international visibility, starting with Indian GI coffee.
