CPM moves EC against returning officer of West Tripura LS seat

Agartala: The CPM in Tripura on Friday moved the Election Commission against the returning officer of West Tripura constituency, Vishal Kumar, accusing him of violating election rules while accepting the nomination paper of the BJP candidate for the seat.
CPM state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury alleged that Kumar had allowed at least 40 people with the BJP candidate inside his chamber during nomination filing on Wednesday. As per law, a maximum of five people can be present with a candidate.
Recalling the byelection to Boxanagar and Dhanpur last year in Sepahijala district, he said Kumar was the district election officer then and had favoured BJP.
Chaudhury further said Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) has been disbursing loans to SHGs by violating the model code of conduct (MCC) to allure the voters in favour of the ruling BJP, while sitting Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura took part in a launch program of PMKVY in Dhalai district.
“During the election process, the release of any kind of loan is a violation of the MCC and it is an endeavour to garner electoral benefits in favour of the ruling BJP,” he added.
Chudhury urged the EC to immediately stop the release of any kind of loan till the election process is over.
