Pradyot’s Motha calls ADC bandh on Sept 30

Agartala: Tripura royal scion and leader of the main opposition Tipra Motha, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, on Saturday announced the launch of an agitation, including calling a strike on September 30 in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas to press the Centre for a “constitutional solution” to the socio-economic problems of the tribals. An NGO-turned-political party, Tipra Motha captured power in the ADC in 2021 with the slogan for the creation of Greater Tipraland and thereafter contested the assembly polls early this year. By winning 13 seats, Motha became the principal opposition party in the 60-member house.Despite sitting in the opposition, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has been persuading the Centre for a constitutional solution to the problems of tribals, who according to him, have remained poor and far from the development indicators.Even after the assembly elections, Pradyot had met Union home minister Amit Shah to press for the demand. He was reportedly assured that an interlocutor would be appointed to settle the claims but there has been no progress yet, which has led to continuous desertions from Motha to BJP and Congress putting Pradyot in a spot.However, he alleged that the Centre’s apathy toward the demands has left him with no other alternative but to go for mass agitation. “As the Centre has not yet done anything to accept and implement our demands for a constitutional solution, we have to agitate for the fulfillment of our demands. Our next plan of agitation will be announced soon,” he said.

Tipra Motha calls for 12-hr bandh in Tripura's tribal areas on Sep 30 for 'Greater Tipraland' demand

The Tipra Motha party in Tripura has called for a 12-hour bandh in tribal areas of the state on September 30 to demand 'Greater Tipraland' statehood. The party aims to send a message to the Centre for an early resolution of their problems. The bandh will only be observed in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council areas. The party's leader, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, expressed confidence that the Centre is not against the interests of the indigenous people and called for an official proposal.

Tipra Motha sets up panel to strengthen party organisation

The Tipra Motha party in Tripura has formed a six-member central executive committee to streamline its organization ahead of the parliamentary elections. Pradyot Debbarma, the party's founder, is included in the panel. This move comes after allegations that the party was being run by a single person and lacked a full-fledged state committee. The newly constituted committee aims to strengthen and establish the party at various levels.

All-party meet: Opposition raises concerns over CEC Bill, calls it anti-constitutional

During an all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, opposition parties in India raised concerns about the government's secretive agenda and the proposed CEC bill. Thiruchi Siva expressed outrage over the notice for a flag-hoisting function being received late and only in Hindi, with chairs only provided for ministers. The TMC proposed the women's reservation bill, and Farooq Abdullah suggested observing a minute of silence for security personnel killed in Kashmir. The government did not provide any responses to the questions and demands raised by the opposition parties.
