Agartala: Tripura CPM on Wednesday demanded rollback of the decision to auction 12 small oil fields of Assam, calling it a 'stepping stone to privatization'.

CPM Tripura state secretary Bijan Dhar denounced the Centre's decision that was announced by Union minister for petroleum Dharmendra Pradhan and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently and said the BJP-led NDA government is 'leading the country to disaster'.

"The people of the state and the entire country have a right to the natural resources but the BJP government in Assam and at the Centre is handing them over on a platter to avaricious companies. This must be stopped. These are worth Rs 12,000 crore," Dhar said.

"We stand by our demand to roll back the decision and that these oil fields function as usual without disturbing the existing setup," Dhar said, adding that the Left parties would not allow the entry of any private player. tnn
