Tripura CPM secy Jitendra Chaudhury visits Congress Bhawan, vows to back party

Agartala: As part of survival strategy, the two rivals – the CPM and the Congress – not only became poll partners in Tripura but CPM’s state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury also for the first time visited the Congress Bhawan here on Saturday evening and held a meeting with latter’s party leaders and assured all kinds of support.The CPM and the Congress have been unitedly fighting against the BJP since last year’s assembly polls, with the bond deepening further ahead of the the Lok Sabha polls. While the Congress put up its state president Ashis Kumar Saha as the candidate for the West Tripura constituency with the support of the Left front, the CPM fielded a veteran tribal leader and former MLA Rajendra Reang in East Tripura. The two parties had inched closer to each other in the run-up to the assembly polls last year with a passive seat-sharing formula. Thereafter, both the the parties have been maintaining a close relationship with each other, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee.
