AGARTALA: A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife and mother-in-law in West Tripura district over a social media post on Sunday. The accused, a 51-year-old poultry farmer from Madhupur in Sepahijala district, had been separated from his wife for over a year.
According to police, the wife had been living with her mother at Netajinagar in West Tripura district for the past one-and-a-half years after filing for divorce. The husband had been residing with their two sons in Madhupur.
On Sunday, the wife posted photographs on social media with two male friends during Durga Puja festivities. This enraged the husband and led him to plan the attack.
"When the mother and daughter duo was returning home, the accused attacked both of them with a sharp object. They died on the spot," said Kiran Kumar K, SP of West Tripura.
Police arrived at the scene to find the bodies in a pool of blood. The accused was arrested within an hour. An investigation is ongoing, and the accused will be presented in court soon, the officer added.
