AGARTALA: The
Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited
will open seven more compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in the western and southern parts of the state by March next year to ensure increased use of clean fuel in the transport sector.
There are five CNG stations in the state, all in Agartala.

Tripura Natural Gas Company
and Lok Sabha MP Jitendra Choudhury said the company currently pumps one lakh cubic metres of natural gas into the five CNG stations but has the potential to generate 1.30 lakh cubic metres. The gap between capacity and actual use of CNG is caused by lack of infrastructure and few filling stations.
The company will open three CNG filling stations in Khowai, Teliamura and Bishalgarh. These will be fed through the mother stations in Agartala. It will also open stations in Melagarh, Belonia, Shantirbazar and Manubazar which will be fed by the
Udaipur
mother station.
Besides producing CNG to motor 10,000 auto-rickshaws, 500 small vehicles and 70 buses, the company has been providing piped cooking gas to more than 15,000 families in the state capital. This will double in the next three years, once pipeline infrastructure is built, Choudhury added.
