Confirming the move, Agra airport director Kusum Das said that InterGlobe officials visited Agra on Monday for checking the feasibility and space for backup operations office. She said the date of launch and the details of the number of flights are yet to be finalised. At present, two flights are operational from here, Air India and Alliance Air which fly on Varanasi-Agra-Khajuraho and Jaipur-Agra-Jaipur routes, three and four days in a week respectively. Other routes that were approved by the Union ministry under the scheme include Delhi, Mumbai, Indore, and Jaisalmer. But the selected airline operators have not approached the airport authority so far. According to available figures provided by Agra airport authorities, the airport saw 11,907 domestic passengers from April 2018 to November 2018 and the aircraft movement was 629 times during the same period.

However, the number of passengers at Agra airport has increased as compared to the previous years. About 11,060 passengers travelled to Agra by air from April to March 2016-17 and this number had gone up to 13,495 during the same period in 2017-18.
