Six-month-old abducted from outside district jail in Aligarh, rescued after 13 days from Ghaziabad, two held

police on Wednesday arrested two women and rescued a 6-month-infant boy who was kidnapped from outside the district jail on May 17.


According to police the infant was recovered from Ghaziabad and was handed over to his parents. The arrested women,

Hemlata and Anita

were remanded to judicial custody.

Police said that Hemlata, who hails from Bulandshahr’s village Daulatpur and works as a labourer in a brick-kiln in Ghaziabad, had kidnapped the infant and had sold him for Rs 50,000 to Anita, who worked with her. While Anita wanted the baby, Hemlata needed the money to pay for her husband’s bail, police said.

On May 17, when Hemlata was visiting the Aligarh district jail to meet her husband, she saw the infant in the lap of his young sister. Sensing an opportunity, she took the child from his sister on the pretext of playing with him and abducted the infant.

Police said, after taking the infant Anita paid Hemlata only Rs 40,000 and refused to pay the balance amount. The two reportedly got into a fight over the balance payment at the brick kiln on Tuesday and the entire deal was exposed.

The brick kiln owner in Ghaziabad informed the police who arrested the two and rescued the baby with the help of a resident, Vedram Chaudhry. Police has awarded a commendation certificate along with a cash prize to Chaudhary for his help.

A day after abduction of infant, Aligarh police had released her sketch and had also declared a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for providing information leading to whereabouts of the woman and the abducted child.

Notably, the abduction took place on May 17, when the child’s mother, Priyanka, was busy in completing formalities for meeting her brother-in-law, Suresh Pal, who was in judicial custody in a theft case. The boy was in his cousin sister Simran’s lap, when the woman forcibly took the baby from her on pretext of playing with him and then disappeared.
