Six NSUI workers arrested in Mathura for attempting to burn UP CM’s effigy

AGRA: Six workers of

National Students’ Union of India

(NSUI) were arrested by

Mathura police

on Friday after they attempted to burn an effigy of chief minister Yogi Adityanath to protest over various issues, including growing

unemployment

, deteriorating law and order situation, crime against women, and alleged scams in the state

power department

.

Circle officer (city) Rakesh Kumar told TOI that the police arrested six NSUI workers as they had violated section 144 CrPc, imposed in the town ahead of the apex court’s impending Ayodhya verdict. He said, all were booked under section 151 CrPc (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences). Later, they were released after they furnished personal bonds.

NSUI workers led by organisation’s National secretary Vishal Chaudhary took out a mock funeral procession from Vikas market to

Holy gate chowk

. Subsequently, they tried to burn the effigy, but the police took it away after a scuffle. The whole incident lasted for almost an hour.

Talking to media persons, Vishal Chaudhary, said that Yogi led government had done nothing for youths in the past three years and today they had staged a protest to highlight the failures of the state government. He said, “BJP government at the Centre had made false promises of giving employment to the youth”.

He claimed that joblessness had increased under the BJP government. “We will continue our protest against government’s oppressive policies,” he said.
