51.41L farmers receive 1,148cr under Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme
Gandhinagar: Over 51.41 lakh farmer families in Gujarat received Rs 1,148 crore assistance through direct benefit transfer (DBT) on Monday, under the central govt's Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed about 2.50 lakh farmers who joined the event from various parts of the state.The PM launched the 100% centrally funded ‘Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana' in 2019. Under this scheme, farmer families receive a total assistance of Rs 6,000 per year, in three equal instalments through direct benefit transfer (DBT). Until now, Rs 18,813.71 crore has been transferred to the accounts of beneficiary farmers in Gujarat under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, an official statement said.Chief minister Bhupendra Patel also virtually inaugurated the procurement of tur (pigeon pea) at the minimum support price (MSP) at a function held in Ahmedabad. The Union govt announced a MSP of Rs 7,550 per quintal for 2024-25 for tur. Accordingly, the state planned to procure 2.6 lakh metric tons of tur from around 200 procurement centres.Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that a sum of Rs 22,498 crore was allocated for agriculture and farmer welfare in the state budget for 2025-26. He added that the credit limit for the kisan credit card was increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Patel also e-inaugurated the Krishi Pragati command and control centre on Monday.
