Ahmedabad: Called for resolving dispute, 31-year-old stabbed to death
Ahmedabad: A minor argument over escorting a person to the spot where the vehicle was parked allegedly snowballed into a planned revenge killing in Sanathal village on Sunday night. The accused had allegedly called the victim home on the pretext of a compromise before fatally stabbing him.
According to Changodar police, 31-year-old Devendrasinh Chauhan was murdered around 8pm in Thakorvas area of Sanathal village. Police said the dispute began earlier in the day at a wedding in Santej village of Gandhinagar district. Devendrasinh and his friends drove down to the wedding venue in an SUV.
After the wedding, police said Devendrasinh asked Bharat Thakor to accompany him to the spot on the outskirts of the village, where he had parked his vehicle. Bharat allegedly refused, leading to a heated exchange between the two. Though the argument appeared to have ended there, police said the accused allegedly nursed a grudge and later called Devendrasinh to his house, claiming he wanted to resolve the dispute.
The complaint in the case was filed by Jagmohansinh Chauhan, the deceased’s cousin. It states that Devendrasinh, along with friends Karan Thakor and another acquaintance, went to the accused’s house in Thakorvas after receiving several phone calls for a “settlement”.
As soon as Devendrasinh entered the house, Chehar Thakor and Bharat allegedly pinned him down and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest and other parts of the body. The complainant alleged that other family members of Bharat beat and kicked the victim while the stabbing continued.
When Jagmohansinh tried to intervene, Bharat allegedly attacked him with a knife, causing minor injuries. Jagmohan stated he grabbed Bharat by the hair while trying to pull him away from Devendrasinh, resulting in his wig falling off near the doorway. However, Bharat continued attacking Devendrasinh. On hearing the screams of the victim, villagers gathered at the house, but the accused managed to flee.
An ambulance team later declared Devendrasinh dead at the scene. Changodar police arrested the accused and said further investigation is underway. Security has been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure, though officials said the situation remains peaceful. Police are examining the scene of crime and will be recording the statements of the witnesses.
