AHMEDABAD: Almost a month after a 28-year-old man killed himself in Narol, his wife and her family have been booked for harassing him and abetting his suicide. Narol police, which had initially registered a case of accidental death, have now filed a case of abetment in the suicide of Vipin Sharma, who hails from Delhi.
They were acting on a complaint lodged by Vipin's father, Vasudev, on Sunday. The complaint named Vipin's wife, Rashmi, her father, Jaykant Sharma, her mother, Lajjadevi, her brother, Ajay, and her sister-in-law, Pranti, as accused.
Vasudev said, "I got to know that my son was admitted to LG Hospital in a critical condition on July 11. I flew down to Ahmedabad only to be told that Vipin had died. After the post-mortem, I took his body back to Delhi for last rites." He told police that, following the last rites, his relatives informed him that Vipin's wife and her relatives had been harassing and pressuring him to give them the money to buy a house in the city.
"Vipin, who worked as a supervisor in a garment factory, married Rashmi in 2013. They had two daughters. Rashmi would not allow Vipin to talk to us. So, he would frequently call us from the office. Two years ago, Ajay moved in with them. He wanted to buy a flat in the area so Jaykant, Lajjadevi, and Pranti also moved into the house," he told police.
"Vipin stopped calling us some days ago. On July 10, he had a big fight with his wife and in-laws over the issue of purchasing a house. He then ran into a room and consumed insecticide," Vasudev stated in the FIR.
