Bootlegger opens fire in extortion bid

Ahmedabad: A 28-year-old resident of Sardarnagar, Ravi Raju Kithwani, filed a complaint with city police stating that an alleged bootlegger, Manish Goplani, fired a round in the air to intimidate him after he did not pay the Rs 10 lakh extortion money that Goplani was demanding.

According to the FIR lodged at Sardarnagar police station, Goplani alias Bidi and his friend Ajay Radhani alias Ajju went to a temple in a car late on Monday night and asked people sitting there about about Kithwani. Goplani then pulled out a pistol and fired a round in the air, declaring that he would kill Kithwani if he didn’t pay him Rs 10 lakh.

When Kithwani was told about this, he called police and filed a complaint. Kithwani’s friend, Ravi Goplani, later received a call from Manish threatening him with dire consequences.

Kithwani told police that Manish Goplani had on August 3 threatened him, saying he had to pay him Rs 10 lakh if he wanted to run his business in the area. Kithwani had filed an FIR with Sardarnagar police station after that.

“Goplani and Radhani opened fire to intimidate me and I am on their target list, so I want to initiate legal proceedings against them,” the complainant reads.

Police sources said Goplani was earlier held for bootlegging.
