revises her lessons as she goes about her household chores and looks after her two children, aged 12 and 6. The 34-year-old is studying for her Class 10 exam so that she can secure a job with the postal department on compassionate ground in place of her husband who died of
Covid
last May.
The Dhandhuka resident had passed Class 9 in 2005. “In 2008, I got married to Mehul. Later, he got a job with the postal department and I never felt the need to study further. Our life was set. We were happy until Mehul died last year,” she said.
Solanki said that her husband died of Covid and the family did not have decent financial support. “When I enquired with the postal department about a job on compassionate ground, I came to know that the minimum educational qualification for the job is Class 10. So, I decided to appear for the exam so that my kids can have a better life,” she said.
Solanki, who is taking the exam at a centre in Jodhpur, said, that her only aim is to pass the exam. “I am determined to pass this exam somehow so that I can bag the job,” she said.

from Dhandhuka, a gram rakshak dal jawan, is appearing in the exam with her son Radheshyam. The 33-year-old has been appearing for Class 10 exam as an external student in Ahmedabad city while
Radheshyam, who is a regular student, is taking his exam in Dhandhuka. She said, “I decided to appear for the exam after 15 years. My son encouraged me to take the exam. We are source of inspiration for each other. This will help me secure a permanent post in the police force.”
