have seized drugs worth Rs 16.24 crore over the past two years, the government told the assembly on Monday. These include ganja, hashish, opium, and mephedrone, which is a psychoactive recreational drug.

The government, replying to questions by Congress MLAs, tabled data on drug seizures. According to the data, 11,831kg of ganja, 3,365.5kg of opium and 69.607kg of hashish was seized in two years. The most seizures of ganja were in Surat, where in two years, 3,534kg was seized.

MLA Akshay Patel, the government stated that while 0.60g of mephedrone was seized between November 2017 and October 2018, the amount of mephedrone seized between November 2018 and October 2019 was 1.47kg.

A senior officer said seizures indicate drug use is increasing. Citing an example, he said between November 2017 and October 2018, the seizure of ganja was only 35.164 kg which increased to 291.545 kg during the same period the following year.
