Fee hike under 5% approved for 522 technical colleges in Gujarat
Ahmedabad: With engineering admissions just days away, the state’s fee regulatory committee (FRC) is working to finalise the fee structures for 705 self-financed technical colleges for the next three academic years (2026-27 to 2028-29). Out of the total institutions, the committee has already declared and locked in the revised fees for 522 colleges that requested a modest increase of under 5%.
Within this approved bracket, 433 institutions requested a 4% to 5% hike, seven colleges sought 3% to 4%, six colleges proposed 2% to 3%, and 27 colleges asked for a 1% to 2% bump, while 49 colleges did not request any fee hike at all. Additionally, 12 colleges submitted proposals to completely discontinue specific courses.
However, a decision remains pending for the 103 institutions pushing for a steeper fee hike exceeding 5%, though sources suggest that roughly 83 of these colleges are likely to get the green light for the higher increase.
While the FRC previously committed to wrapping up all revisions by June, the impending mock admission round launching within the next two days has sparked anxiety among students.
Normally, fee structures are legally settled before degree engineering admissions commence. If the committee’s decisions spill past the June deadline, the first official round of admissions may conclude before the remaining revised fees are declared, forcing students to initially pay existing fees and adjust to the new structure at a later date.
