Gujarat govt makes ‘The Sabarmati Report’ tax-free
Gandhinagar: The state govt announced on Thursday that the film "The Sabarmati Report" will be tax-free in Gujarat. The movie is based on the Godhra train burning incident of 2002.An official statement said that CM Bhupendra Patel made the decision to make the movie tax-free after watching it at a multiplex on Wednesday night. Patel watched the film along with its producer Ekta Kapoor, veteran Bollywood star Jitendra, the movie's actress Riddhi Dogra, and MoS home Harsh Sanghavi, an official statement said.Gujarat is the fifth BJP-ruled state to give tax-free status to the Vikrant Massey-starrer, which released in theatres last week. Earlier this week, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh declared the movie tax-free, which will effectively reduce its ticket prices.On Feb 27, 2002, 59 persons, mostly kar sevaks, were killed when a coach of the Sabarmati Express train was set afire near Godhra station in Gujarat, triggering widespread riots in the state.
