AHMEDABAD: Harsh Sanghavi, the state MoS (home), on Saturday launched Garima project of the Gujarat Police and Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) at PDEU. The six-month project will cover 3 lakh population of the state - women of up to 60 years of age and both men and women above 60 years. They will be asked questions about their perception of safety and suggestions to improve it.

State police officials said that the initiative will take place across all the districts where the research assistants will work closely with She teams of local police and carry out the survey at police chowky levels. The suggestions would be implemented in terms of outreach, grievance redressal, improvement in infrastructure and so on.

Prof Ritu Sharma, project lead along with Prof Nita Khurana from PDEU, said that the parameters taken in the project include perception of public places, 24x7 safety, social media, domestic places, response to abuse, police support, workplace and financial safety. "The project is also live now on the state police's citizen portal and mobile app where the citizens can participate," she said.
