Heatwave-like conditions to persist in city; relief likely from May 30
Ahmedabad: Large parts of Gujarat are likely to continue experiencing hot and humid conditions over the next two days, with maximum temperatures remaining above 40 degrees Celsius in isolated pockets across the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Surendranagar recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44 degrees Celsius, while Ahmedabad burned at 43.6 degrees on Wednesday.
The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad is likely touch 44 degrees on Thursday. The IMD has forecast hot and humid conditions for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara, along with coastal areas of Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra-Kutch.
While dry weather is expected to prevail across Gujarat for the next three days, the weather department has indicated a gradual fall in temperatures by 2-4 degrees after the next 48 hours.
From May 30 onwards, parts of north Gujarat and Kutch are likely to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers. Districts including Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Aravalli and Mahisagar are expected to witness isolated rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
The IMD said the changing weather pattern was linked to the further advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, along with a fresh western disturbance likely to affect northwest India from May 28.
