Indian shooters will do much better in Tokyo Oly: Narang

Ahmedabad: Ace Indian shooter Gagan Narang is confident that Indian shooters will fare much better during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and surpass their impressive previous performances at the Games.

“Ï feel that Indian shooters will do a lot better in Tokyo next year,” said Narang while interacting with the mediapersons on the sidelines of the panel discussion on ‘Fit India’ during the inauguration of the Sanskardham Sports Academy here on Sunday.

Many of India’s sports icons like Viswanathan Anand, Pullela Gopichand, MC Mary Kom and Deepa Malik too were part of the discussion along with Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju.

Gagan was all praise for Ahmedabad-based shooter Elavenil Valarivan, who recently won the 10m air rifle gold at Rio ISSF World Cup. Gagan has played a huge role in her transition from a promising junior to a capable senior. “I am very proud of Elavenil,’’ said the 36-year-old, who won bronze at the London 2012 Olympics.
