Murder convict Montu Namdar booked for abusing cops in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: Montu Namdar, a convict serving a sentence in the 2022 murder of BJP worker Rakesh Mehta, was booked again after a video purportedly showing him abusing police personnel and members of the public during his detention went viral on social media.
According to Khadia police, the incident occurred on Tuesday night when Namdar was being taken into custody in connection with a fresh case registered against him. Police inspector V M Lagaria said Namdar created a disturbance in public and hurled abuses at police personnel while being detained. A complaint has been registered in connection with the incident.
In the viral video, Namdar is allegedly seen abusing police personnel and bystanders, and claiming influence in the Khadia area. His son is seen attempting to calm him down, but Namdar continues to argue and allegedly threatens police officers with legal action.
The latest case comes days after Khadia police registered an FIR against Namdar for allegedly threatening a prosecution witness in the Rakesh Mehta murder case. According to the complaint, Namdar, who was out on parole, allegedly arrived near the witness’s office in Lalavasa Pol with two associates and threatened him and his family over testimony that had contributed to his conviction.
Police sources said Namdar allegedly fled after the incident and later sustained a fractured leg while attempting to evade police action.
Namdar has been at the centre of several controversies during his incarceration. He had previously been accused of violating parole conditions and was shifted from Nadiad jail to Vadodara jail after a video purportedly showing him receiving special treatment in prison surfaced online.
