Phase I of Census 2027 in Gujarat from today
Gandhinagar: The first phase of Population Census 2027 will begin across the state from Monday, with the directorate of census operations appealing to all citizens to participate. The last census in India was conducted in 2011.
An official statement said that so far, 3.74 lakh citizens, including chief minister Bhupendra Patel, deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi, governor Acharya Devvrat and others have participated in self-enumeration as part of the census operations.
Director of census operations, Sujal Mayatra stated that between June 1 and June 30, houselisting operations (HLO) will be conducted statewide. During this phase, enumerators will ask a total of 33 questions regarding housing conditions, family details, sources of drinking water, sanitation facilities, and other assets.
In the second phase of Census 2027, which will be held from Feb 9-Feb 28, 2027, population enumeration (PE) and caste census will be completed nationwide.
The statement said that as part of Census 2027, the self-enumeration campaign was launched on May 17, in which 3.74 lakh citizens have participated. Of these, the process for 3.30 lakh forms has been completed, while the remaining 44,000 forms are in process.
The first phase of census will be conducted in all districts, municipal corporations, municipalities, and villages in the state. It includes 1,10,598 house listing blocks (HLBs), 1,09,038 enumerators, and 18,254 supervisors.
The govt said that all personal information collected under the Census Act, 1948, and Census Rules, 1990, will be confidential. This data cannot be used for legal or tax purposes. By law, every citizen is required to provide accurate and complete information, the statement said, adding that there are provisions for penalties for refusing to provide information.
