Docs perform rare cyst removal surgery

Prayagraj: In a major achievement, a team from the department of Urology at Motilal Nehru Medical College and Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital, Prayagraj, on Friday claimed to have performed a rare and complex surgery, successfully removing a massive hydatid cyst (Right Renal Hydatid Cyst) that had developed in a patient’s right kidney.

The surgery was conducted under the leadership of Head of the Department of Urology,Dr Dilip Chaurasia.

Dr Chaurasia said, “The presence of a hydatid cyst in the kidney is extremely rare. In most cases, this disease is found in the liver and lungs. In such complex cases, special precautions must be taken during surgery, as there was a risk of severe allergic reactions and the spread of infection should the cyst rupture.”
