Man shot dead in Pratapgarh
Prayagraj: Unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants shot dead 35-year-old man at Mandhata crossroads of the neighbouring Pratapgarh district, on Saturday. The assailants managed to flee the spot after the attack.According to police, the attack is believed to be the fallout of the victim having intervened in a fight two days back. Relatives of the deceased blocked the intersection demanding arrest of the accused. As per reports, the victim Roshan Jama (35), a resident of Mishrapur village of Mandhata area of Pratapgarh used to make a living by working as a truck driver in Gujarat. A week back, he had returned home. On Friday, one of his cousins Javed entered into an altercation with a man following which Roshan had intervened and stopped the fight from escalating further. On Saturday morning, when Javed was standing at Mandhata’s Taraul crossing along with a few locals, half-a-dozen bike-borne assailants arrived on two separate bikes, allegedly including the man with whom Javed had an altercation with, two days back, and opened fire on him with a country made weapon from close range after giving him a chase and managed to flee the spot.Roshan who sustained gunshot injury on his chest was rushed to Mandhata primary health centre and from where he was referred to the Pratapgarh medical college. However, he died on the way to the medical college, police added. ASP (East) Vidyasagar Mishra said that FIR against half-a-dozen people including four named individuals (Sahab Ali and Naeem of Shivra village as well as Mahfooz of Mishrapur and Ijhar of Manhu village) has been registered in connection with murder. “Three of four named accused are being questioned,” he added.
