PRAYAGRAJ: The Gyanvapi Mosque management – Anjuman Intezamia Masajid (AIM) – on Monday contested before the Allahabad high court that the petition of five Hindu women plaintiffs seeking daily worship of Shringar Gauri and other Hindu deities in Gyanvapi complex was not maintainable under the Places of Worship Act 1991.
The AIM further stated that thereby the September 12 order of the Varanasi court which held the petition as maintainable must be held null and void. The court will now hear the case on October 19.
Justice JJ Munir heard the joint request made by both the parties and listed the matter for further hearing on Wednesday.
On September 12, taking up the plea of five women plaintiffs as per the direction of the Supreme Court, seeking daily worship of Shringar Gauri and other deities located on the outer wall of Gyanvapi mosque, the Varanasi district judge had observed that the suit of the plaintiffs (five Hindu women) is not barred by the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, and was hence maintainable.
The district judge had dismissed the AIM’s plea challenging the maintainability of the suit filed by five Hindu women (plaintiffs).
