Allahabad: The Allahabad high court on Thursday extended by five weeks the interim relief granted to the director and two officers of Ringing Bells Pvt Limited, the company that had announced the launch of smartphone Freedom 251 at the most affordable price of Rs 251 only.

On March 30, HC had directed the state government not to take any coercive step against them and also directed the three company officials to submit their passports before Noida SSP within 24 hours. Hence their passport would remain seized for the next five weeks. An FIR against the three principals of Ringing Bells was lodged at Noida by member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya for alleged misleading advertisement and collecting money under ponzi scheme.

The court passed the above order when the counsels representing the Central government, state government and the complainant on Thursday sought further time for filing of their respective replies (counter affidavit) in the matter.

Hearing the writ petition filed by Mohit Kumar, Dharna Garg and Ashok Chadha, challenging the FIR lodged against them, a division bench comprising Justice Bala Krishna Narayana and Justice Ravindra Nath directed to list this case after five weeks for the next hearing. It was submitted on behalf of Ringing Bells that all advances collected for Freedom 251 from customers were refunded by the authorized payment Gateway M/s CC Avenue, to customers in the last week of February 2016 itself.
