Roads leading to Sangam to become greener

Prayagraj: Green cover along all the roads leading to Sangam area will be enhanced ahead of Mahakumbh 2025. This will be done along with widening of these roads so that devotees arriving for mega religious event do not face any hassle while coming to the mela area at Sangam.Mela adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand inspected five roads connecting the mela area to the rest of the city and instructed to enhance the green belt and road widening. The Bhardwaj ashram and Bhardwaj park will also be revamped.Saplings will be planted along the roads where there are dividers besides road tracks and footpaths as part of the initiative. Anand ordered Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) to submit a proposal for setting up the green belt to the Prayagraj Mela Authority within the next 15 days. “We have been asked by the mela adhikari to prepare a plan for planting saplings along the roads leading to Sangam. We are mulling over the plan wherein similar species of tree would be planted in a row,” said divisional forest officer (DFO) Mahaveer Kaujalgi.Anand has also asked the Prayagraj regional tourism officer Aprajita Singh to prepare a feasibility report on constructing a road between Bhardwaj Ashram and Bhardwaj Park. He also inspected the five roads proposed for beautification before the Mahakumbh. The roads inspected, included Kothaparcha crossing to Ram Bhavan crossing, the road under the new Yamuna bridge to Lowther Road, Ewing Christian College (ECC) to Kothaparcha, Kothaparcha to Kydganj and New Yamuna Bridge besides the road from Sulaki Crossing to Mutthiganj Police Station and Baluaghat crossing.After inspection, he directed all these roads be widened and overhead electric wires be made underground.During the inspection of Bhardwaj temple, Anand directed to remove encroachments to increase the width of the path of the ancient temple.
