TIRUPATI: The IVth sessions judge court in Anantapur sentenced one to life imprisonment and seven others to seven years rigorous imprisonment, while delivering the verdict in connection with a kidnap, extortion and a murder case on Thursday.

According to Anantapur SP P Jagadish, on 12.09.2015, the complainant Bhagya Lakshmi, a resident of Neeruganti street in Anantapur, went to Pamidi along with her brother Vijayawada Mohan.

A gang of 8 persons, waylaid them and kidnapped them. After keeping the duo in their illegal custody, the gang extracted Rs 47 lakh from the victims and later on killed Vijaya Mohan and disposed off his body at a local water tank in December of 2015

Following a complaint lodged by Bhagya Lakshmi, Pamidi police registered a case and arrested all the 8 accused subsequently.

Following a nearly decade long trial, the Anantapur court on Thursday, sentenced Basireddy Ramesh Reddy to undergo life imprisonment and his seven other accomplices to undergo seven years rigorous imprisonment each along with a fine of Rs 5000.
